It’s a truism to state that pain is an inevitable part of life. And it’s true that we all, from time to time, experience pain that is short-lived and treatable. But those who deal with chronic pain know the debilitating, life-sucking reality of this condition. And traditional medications often come with long lists of side effects which can be as debilitating as the pain itself.

By spreading knowledge and information about cannabis, hemp, CBD, and other cannabinoids, we’re supporting safe growth of the cannabis industry while at the same time educating the masses about a misunderstood plant.
Recreational marijuana is not legal in New York state. What the coffee shop is selling is CBD-infused lattes; CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. Out of curiosity, I bought one. It cost $9 and tasted like a latte with that hint of marijuana herbiness you get from a weed cookie. Google research informed me I would not get high but would be calmer, less anxious, maybe a little sleepy. I have no idea if I felt anything at all. Mostly, I felt like I just spent $9 on coffee.
This article has many errors. “Hemp” means cannabis grown for fibre, but it also means cannabis grown for seed. So while it is true that fibre hemp “looks similar to bamboo,” hemp grown for seed has big buds and looks just like “marijuana.” Seed hemp is grown in a similar manner to marijuana, with plants more spaced out. These plants produce much more resin, at comparable levels to any other outdoor-grown cannabis. If these “hemp” strains for seed production were grown exactly the same as they are now, but they were not fertilized by male plants, they would be an excellent source of resin for CBD and also other cannabinoids. Even when they do go to seed, they still produce plentiful resin with a good level of cannabinoids.

The cannabis plant is filled with hundreds of different compounds, several of which have been studied for decades for their therapeutic benefits. The cannabis compounds that have captured the most scientific interest are known as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are now used in treatment for a broad—and growing—range of conditions and symptoms, from sleep and pain, to anxiety and inflammation, to Parkinson’s disease and cancer.

Our Hemp Classic CBD Oil extract contains 250+ mg cannabinoids per fluid ounce extracted from industrial hemp. It contains an abundance of naturally-occurring, beneficial components, including cannabinoids, terpenes, amino acids, trace minerals (such as iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, potassium), omega fatty acids (including omega 3 & 6), carbohydrates, flavonoids, beta-carotene, chlorophyll, glycosides, nitrogenous compounds, alkanes, and vitamins (including B1, B2, B6, D). The cannabis oil is emulsified in organic hemp seed oil.
In point of fact, while there is NO third party organic certification system available for marijuana at present, hemp qualifies for organic certification. We extract our CBD rich hemp oil from certified organic Cannabis sativa grown in Europe. Our CBD oil is extracted using supercritical CO2, the cleanest possible processing system. In the US, we are NOT permitted to obtain USDA NOP Organic certification for our product itself, due to our use of CBD rich hemp oil. (This is a decision made by the US government’s organic program, that operates under the umbrella of the USDA, despite the legality of hemp and cannabinoid rich hemp oil.)
Still, as the saying goes, absence of evidence isn’t necessarily evidence of absence, and there’s a reason we don’t have a ton of solid research on CBDs yet — “to study it, we need a good source, ” said Ziva Cooper, who is an associate professor at Columbia University and was on the National Academies committee. CBD is hard to get because it’s still technically a Schedule I drug, which limits its availability, Cooper said.
Demand for CBD is rapidly rising, as scientists discover that CBD may potentially reduce seizures, pain, anxiety, and inflammation, and provide antioxidant and neuroprotective effects that could potentially be beneficial for neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and maybe even some cancers. While the findings on CBD have been promising, some patients remain hesitant to incorporate CBD oil into their treatment plan because of the presence of THC.

There are reasons why some people may want to refrain from consuming any and all THC. If you’re a competing athlete, a first responder, or simply interested in avoiding even trace levels of THC for personal reasons, THC-free CBD oil products could be ideal. Because isolated CBD supplements are more concentrated, they’re also more optimal for those interested in a higher daily CBD intake.
There is a tremendous difference between CBD from hemp vs the actual cannabis plant; not addressed the fact that you are discussing CBD from hemp in the beginning of the article is confusing to those who have not been able to do their own research yet. I’ve been trying different CBD products for 2 years now & at first read, I thought you were talking about cannabis.
As marijuana is legalized in more and more states, the wellness world has whipped itself into a frenzy over a non-intoxicating cannabis derivative called cannabidiol. CBD products can be found on the internet and in health-food stores, wellness catalogs and even bookstores. (A bookstore in downtown Boulder, Colorado, displays a case of CBD products between the cash register and the stacks of new releases.) Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, disgraced cyclist1 Floyd Landis and former Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer are all touting CBD products, and according to Bon Appétit, CBD-infused lattes have become “the wellness world’s new favorite drink.”

But one of the big differences between CBD and THC is, according to Jane West, cannabis activist, entrepreneur, and founder of the marijuana networking group Women Grow, that CBD is non-intoxicating. “Its potential benefits come with few or no adverse effects,” West tells MarieClaire.com. “So really, this is something that everyone, even those who are reluctant to consume cannabis, can try to incorporate beneficial cannabinoids into their lives without any sort of high or residual THC in their bloodstream.”
Everyone wants a piece of CBD, and nobody is watching. Remember: There’s no regulation by the FDA or anyone else. An investigation by Natural Products Insider, a trade publication for the supplement industry, revealed that CBD producers are, at best, claiming to follow “good manufacturing practices” without any official oversight. It’s illegal to sell something that isn’t what its packaging claims it is — that falls under the purview of the Federal Trade Commission — but nobody is doing onsite testing.
Based on reviews, smoking or vaporizing CBD vape oil seems to have less effects when compared to other methods of administering CBD, such as tinctures, capsules and sprays. On the flip side, others argue that smoking or vaporizing has less drawbacks than taking CBD orally, since ingesting CBD orally could result in inconsistent absorption and a delayed effect.
The cannabinoids found in plants and cannabis are called phytocannibinoids. Of the 113 cannabinoids, the best known are THC. THC is famous and comes from marijuana. It is well known for it’s psychotropic properties and altered states of consciousness, it has also been credited for it’s interaction with the endocannabinoid system and is effective at treating glaucoma, PTSD and asthma. Hemp is the humble, less-known cousin of marijuana and recently another cannabinoid has been grabbling a lot of attention. CBD, whose psychotropic properties are nearly non-existent and whose benefits on the body is quite impressive. CBD has raised public awareness of both CBD and the medicinal properties of cannabis. The discovery of receptors in the brain that responds to cannabis and the identification of endogenous cannabinoid compounds in our own bodies that bind to these receptors is advancing our understanding of human biology, health and disease.

In terms of what’s actually legal, CBD operates in a gray area. Many Bay Area bars like Flore and Bottelón in the Castro started to offer alcoholic CBD drinks earlier this year until the laws got a little iffy this summer. Now you’re technically not allowed to put cannabis-based CBD oils and extracts into anything alcoholic due to slight traces of THC, but CBD derived from hemp is THC-free and thus OK for cocktails. At least that’s how establishments are operating for now.
The drug warrior’s strategic retreat: Give ground on CBD while continuing to demonize THC. Diehard marijuana prohibitionists are exploiting the good news about CBD to further stigmatize high-THC cannabis, casting tetrahydrocannabinol as the bad cannabinoid, whereas CBD is framed as the good cannabinoid. Why? Because CBD doesn’t make you high like THC does.
I am currently going through red skin syndrome/topical steroid withdrawal. The only cure as of now is time(6 months to 3 years) and waiting out horrible eczema-like flares. My main issue is burning/tingling skin that is almost constant. Steroids close off blood vessels and when you stop them they 'wake' up causing this nerve discomfort/pain. I've been smoking medical cannabis for the duration of my recovery(1.5 years) and It's done wonders except that the flare is around my mouth and I'm afraid the smoking is causing more issues.. as well as helping. I need to step up my game and take a different approach. I am wondering how to go about using cbd but I don't know where to start and was wondering if you could help. Thank you
The CBD utilized in our tinctures is extracted from industrial hemp cultivated in the United States. To further ensure quality and purity, our industrial hemp goes through a supercritical CO2 extraction process to obtain the best possible CBD solution. This solution is then formulated by our board-certified pharmacists into finished products and sent out for third-party testing. Our CBD oil is made with high-quality CBD extracted from organic hemp that is abundant in naturally produced terpenes, oils, vitamins, omega fatty acids, and other components.
